Job Availability: Youth Worker – Summer Program
Location: African Caribbean Centre
Dates: 14th July – 22nd August 2025
Working Days: Monday to Friday – 15 hours per week
Hours: 3 evenings per week (with some flexibility required for trips and activities)
Rate of Pay: £15 per hour
Contract Type: Self-employed
DBS: DBS check required

About the Project
In partnership with the Attenborough Arts Centre, the African Caribbean Centre is launching a dynamic,
culturally rich summer programme for young people. This non-term time initiative will offer creative,
engaging and supportive activities that promote personal growth, confidence, and a sense of community.
We are now seeking two experienced Youth Workers to join our team in delivering a vibrant schedule of
workshops, mentoring, and recreational sessions designed to inspire and empower local youth.
Key Responsibilities
• Engage and support young people aged 11–18 through creative and recreational activities.
• Facilitate workshops and sessions in collaboration with artists and community partners.
• Provide a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants.
• Build trusting relationships with young people, encouraging their participation and input.
• Manage group dynamics and respond appropriately to individual needs or behavioural challenges.
• Ensure safeguarding procedures are adhered to at all times.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance and incidents as required.
Person Specification
Essential:
• Minimum 1 year’s experience in youth work, community engagement or a similar role.
• Proven ability to work effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds.
• Current Enhanced DBS check (or willing to obtain one before the programme starts).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable, proactive and committed to the wellbeing of young people.
• Able to work independently on a self-employed basis.
Desirable:
• Experience working within African Caribbean communities.
• Familiarity with arts, music or cultural programmes for young people.
• First Aid training or other relevant certification.
