Inspire Awards 2024
In what promises to be an annual event, the African Heritage Alliance (AHA) organised its inaugural awards ceremony on the 29th of June 2024. The Inspire Awards was created with a view of celebrating the diaspora of African Heritage and to inspire us, as a community to make more impact in our own way.
The ceremony was held in the Main Hall of the African Caribbean Centre and was hosted by London based Comedian: Peter Francis. The Hall was filled with jokes and laughter but the guests were definitely fed more than that. Dinner was catered for by Odette’s Kitchen with Carla Thomas and Latin Quintet: Edgar Macias holding the fort in musical entertainment. Over 130 guests, including the Mayor of Leicester – Peter Soulsby, bonded over food, laughter and music.
However, regardless of the food and entertainment, the Inspire Awards 2024 was marked with one paramount feeling; the joy of community. The air was thick with excitement! It was more than the trophies. The essence of the event transcended beyond the resplendent clothing. It was about us. The Inspire Awards is about us – the African and Caribbean community. It is in the joy of seeing our brothers and sisters receiving the recognition they deserve. It is about the power of our collaboration as opposed to strife. It is in the smile on the face of every attendant.
The Inspire Awards is about us; and in the words of George Cole, a member of the AHA:
‘This gives us an insight into how brilliant we can be when we put our minds to it and work together.’
This is the Inspire Awards. See you next year!
